I am a 20 year old guy from a 3rd world country, I go to a college in Iowa. I am on a F1-status. I need to get an orthodontic treatment but I am told that the fees are atronomical. I have a student health insurance that dosent cover any cosmetic (any dental) treatments. I am asking your advise on how to go about getting a braces here in US. (I have an extremely low budget for this) |

Try dental schools. You get worked on by a student. The work is supervised and double-checked by the instructor. There might be a waiting list, but it's usually much much cheaper. |

Also, you might consider having this work done in another country. Perhaps the money you save might be able to justify the cost of travel. |

Steph, I thought about doing it in a dental school. But I there there are none here. And going to another country is not a viable option at the time being, I am a student form a different country here in US. |

Dear baalho, When I was in college (in the U.S.), I paid for orthodontic work on a time bases. The dentist made a deal with me so that I could pay a little bit each month for about 2 years. Perhaps that is something you could consider. |

Peggy, thanks for the comment. Yes indeed, i could go that route. The problem with that though, the total cost will remain same or go up (is there is interest and stuff). If i find no other alternatives, I guess I will have to do as u suggested. thanks At |
