i am currently researching a topic for an up and coming discussions
forum for a educational institutions monthly paper. The discussion is
'the extent as to which we can talk about the design and use of ict's
as gendered?' (information communication technologies) so really i
want to discuss how much of the internet you could argue is designed
and intended for a specific sex. some statistics backing this claim is
really important, so something like '75% of women as opposed to 25% of
men use medical related sights' and then discuss why this may be,
i.e., intended target audience, visual representation of the site,
brief history in relation of gender interest of the the topic of the
site. who owns and tends to use ict'si.e., socio economic groups.
however i do not want to specify my discussion purely on computers and
the internet, but all kinds of ict's. i would also like to include a
section of how men and women make use of ict's in different ways,
i.e., at home and in the workplace. this will hepl me to apply the
argument of ict's being 'gender neutral'. again some statistics would
be useful. some information on the early stages of development of the
iternet and whether anyone involved may have commented on how it is
specific to either sex or any related comments would perhaps be the
most helpful.i have not yet conducted any electronic researh only literature based. |
