Hello Successhotline,

Below you will find the results of my research for the most quoted American.

According to a 1992 tabulation of sources from the previous 12 years
in the Arts and Humanities Citation Index, Noam Chomsky is the most
quoted American.

?Noam Chomsky, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology linguist and
US foreign policy critic, ranks as the most quoted living thinker (and
eighth overall) according to a 1992 tabulation of sources from the
previous 12 years in the Arts and Humanities Citation Index, which
keeps track of journals and scholarly work. He also comes out on top
among current intellectuals in a survey of the Social Sciences
Citation Index performed by the MIT library.?

Henry Louis Mencken and Mark Twain

"He and Mark Twain are the two most widely quoted American authors,"
said Vince Fitzpatrick, curator of the library's Mencken Room.
"Because some of his more memorable quotes are about politicians and
democracy, you get a lot more in presidential election years."

Henry Louis Mencken

?Beginning early in his career, Mencken subscribed to a clipping
service that collected any and all published materials that mentioned
him. (..) The material just pours in," says Fitzpatrick, whose duty it
is to paste the pieces into thick bound volumes. (The curator says he
fills more than 350 pages every four months.) Mencken remains one of
the most quoted American writers. His biting wisdom seems particularly
relevant now, as our present era of cushy prosperity, portentous
prudery, and hypocrisy in high places compares neatly with his own
Roaring '20s.?

Mencken
?Mencken had interesting things to say about politics, literature,
food, health, religion, sports, and much more. No one knew more about
our American language. Influential pundits of the past like Walter
Lippmann are long forgotten, but people still read Mencken's work.
During the past decade, publishers have issued almost a dozen books
about him or by him. Biographer William Nolte reports that Mencken
ranks among the most frequently quoted American authors.?

Mark Twain
?Mark Twain is one of the most frequently quoted writers in American
literature, having commented on almost every issue of his time. Much
of what he said over nine decades ago remains relevant today.?
