Where might I be able to purchase a copy (or copies of multiple
versions) of Microsoft Word for the operating system OS/2? The
product(s) I need must have the original box and full original
documentation.

smc968 - thanks for submitting your excellent question to our forum.

Word for OS/2...I take it that you are referring to the version
released by Microsoft in the early 1990s?

Please confirm, because there is no new release of this software, and
it has not been sold through regular outlets for at least 3,4 years.

thanks,
ragingacademic

Yes, I am looking for an old version of MS Word for OS/2 released in
the early 1990s. I do not expect the answer to this question to
literally ential the acquisiton of a copy of this software, but rather
I just need to find somewhere, anywhere, that I might be able to
purchase a copy, (not necessarily sealed, but) in the original box and
with the original documentation. The sooner the better. Thanks! Let me
know if there are any further questions.

smc968 - thanks for your clarification. I've located an original
copy, but it is not for sale -

http://pages.prodigy.net/michaln/history/exhibits/

However, we may be able to contact this individual and to make an offer.

Is this the kind of information you have in mind?

I could also direct you to some sites where you can place a kind of
"wanted" ad and wait for potential sellers to contact you.

I can tell you that, after searching quite extensively, there do not
seem to be copies just listed for sale, so the effort is going to
entail some creativity...

The information you provided is essentially what I need, however, my
request will really not be answered until I am able to find someone
willing to sell me a copy of the software. If you would be able to let
me know about where I might post "wanted" ads that would be great, and
I'll contact the person who runs the website you suggested. If any of
these options pans out, then I would certainly consider the request
fulfilled, and I'm not sure how it works but you can collect. Thanks.

smc968 - hello again. I guess what I will do at this point is place
3-4 such wanted ads and wait to see if anyone bites. I will keep you
updated.

Have you contacted the gentleman from
http://pages.prodigy.net/michaln/history/exhibits/
or would you like me to?

thanks,

smc968 - looks like we missed one copy by just days - sold jan 12 2004 on ebay:

I am contacting the seller to see if he may be able to find another copy.

thanks

I did contact the person who runs that prodigy page and he said that
his copy is not for sale. Definitely go ahead and place those ads, and
I guess we'll see what happens. Perhaps another one will show up on
ebay... this is quite unfortunate that I missed that one that sold
recently. Keep me updated. Thanks.

smc968 - just as an update, I have not received any responses to my
inquiries and ads as yet. I am thinking about working some additional
angles and will continue to keep you "in the know..."

smc968 - hello again; still no bites; only thing that happened was
that someone advertised on ebay that they are desperate for Word for
OS/2...thought that may have been you; if not, probably another
researcher, or maybe just a coincidence.

I'll continue to keep you updated.

thanks,

That ebay auction was not set up by me, but I would not be surprised
if it was set up by some person that I have contacted over the past
couple weeks. I really don't know anything about it though. I guess I
would just say, keep searching.

smc968-ga,

Here's a link to the MS Office--Word Home Page:

From here you can contact them or search the site, view FAQs, etc.

Is there a version of Word for OS/2 that I'm just not seeing?

OS/2 had superb Windows emulation (it was a lot more stable than
Windows itself!), and would run Word 6 with no trouble.

Are you referring then to word 6, or some product I'm unfamiliar with?
I only dabbled with OS/2 when I was given an evaluation copy of Warp
v.3. It took 12 minutes to boot on my 386, but did run...

Yeah; thanks. I noticed your clarification after I posted my comment--too late.

I probably just clued into the OS/2 thing too late, and missed that
window where MS and IBM were friends about it.

Does anyone know, what /was/ the OS/2 version of Word? A port of
existing Windows code? A rebranding of Windows code? An entirely
separate product?

interesting thread - check out the following vendor - he lists the
software but not sure if it's in stock. Regards.
