I'm looking for a certain kind of table covering for a party. It's
often called "banquet roll"--it's pretty thin plastic, sold on a roll,
that you can use as a tablecloth, cutting off lengths to fit each
table.

I can find places selling solid colors and gingham prints, but the
kind I want is very brightly colored with big flower prints--bright
pink background with red and orange and black flowers, for instance.
A chef I knew used to order this from (I think) a Chinese restaurant
supply catalog. I'm also thinking that it's something Mexican vendors
might have.

I would prefer a link to an online vendor, but I would settle for some
names of Chinese restaurant supply vendors that I could contact for a
print catalog. (I've found sites that might have information like
this, but since I can't read Chinese, I can't contact them.)

Hello zorao,

I believe I found two stores that carry the type of table covering you
are seeking.

1. Milagros Gallery (located in Sonoma, California)

Sonoma Plaza 414 First Street
East Sonoma, California 95476
1-877-939-0834 (toll free order number)
Hours: Daily 11pm-5pm Or By Appointment
Website: http://www.milagrosgallery.com

The page on the link below has three brightly coloured Mexican oil
cloths - two of which have bright floral patterns:

2. Poppy Fabrics

5151 Broadway
Oakland, California
510-655-5151
Hours: Open till 8pm on weekdays, and Sunday afternoon

Although they do not have an online site, I called them and upon
speaking with a salesperson, I found out that they do sell both
plastic-coated fabric (vinylized) tablecloths and Mexican oil cloths.
Both types come in various colourful flowered patterns.

I came upon this store when I entered my search terms and clicked on
the following link:

http://parents.berkeley.edu/recommend/where2buy/tablecloths.html

The search terms I entered were:

+"plastic tablecloth" +flowers (this gave me the Poppy Fabrics info)
"mexican oil cloth" (this gave me the Milagros Gallery info)

I hope one of these stores can provide you with the table covering
your are seeking for your party.

Regards,

Somewhat helpful, though not the precise thing I was looking for (I
wanted something very disposable, which I should have said more
specifically in my request--although I expected the researcher would
look up "banquet roll" to see what I was talking about). What this
researcher found is a good backup if I don't find what I'm looking
for.

Good news zorao-ga!

I found some patterns in Canada that sound like they might be what you
are looking for:

Les Plastiques Dura Plastics ( www.duraplas.com )

Third row, the sample on the right. Please let us know if this is not
right and we'll keep looking.

Not the groovy color scheme I was hoping for--and it's hard to tell
from the image what the plastic quality is like. Plus, they don't
come on rolls, it looks like.
