I've got Who's Who, Debretts & Burkes which are all predictably boring.
And I certainly don't want to know about his wife's cats. (Sorry, Pinkfreud)
What I would like to know is what he got up to politically in
1923-1924, both in London and Dublin.
And was he a Die-Hard Conservative. Or what?
Many thanks. |

Hello pbp,
As usual, the NY Times has some interesting leads, but I'm afraid for
five bucks, I can't afford to go accessing the articles myself. You
might want to have a look at some or all of these, however, as they
mention Lord Decies in some fashion or another:
3 GOULD CHILDREN IN COURT DISPUTE
New York Times (1857-Current file); Dec 19, 1924
[I believe Lady D was a Gould]
England Needs Only 2,600 To Complete Olympic Quota
New York Times (1857-Current file); Apr 20, 1924
HEIRS WAR OVER THE GOULD MILLIONS
New York Times (1857-Current file); Dec 23, 1923
DAIL EIREANN MEETS FOR LAST TIME AS SUCH
Copyright, 1922, by The New York Times Company. By Wireless to THE NEW
YORK TIMES.; New York Times (1857-Current file); Dec 5, 1922
Income Tax Keeps Englishmen Shabby, Lord Decies Tells Tailors' Convention
Copyright, 1922, by The New York Times Company. Special Cable to THE
NEW YORK TIMES.; New York Times (1857-Current file); Sep 14, 1922
==========
And the LA Times also offers an interesting political tidbit, but I'm
sure you'll want something more in-depth:
Decies and Yates in Irish Dail
LA TImes 12/6/1922
"The list of Senators nominated by William Cosgrave, president of the
Dail Eireann, includes W.B Yeats, a poet, Lord Decies, Earl of
Dunrave, Earl of Wicklow, Lord Glenavy and George Russell...
The article does not add much about Decies beyond that brief mention.
Good luck.

Hi, Paf
Many thanks for the insights, some of which look promising. I'm not
interested in the family stuff, just the political.
Please give me a price for pursuing the various leads and, if it's
affordable, I'll sort something out.
Kindest regards
Bryan

Hey Bryan,
Pulling up the articles that may be of interest to you isn't all that
costly (about a buck or two per article), but -- since copyright
prohibits me from posting the articles themselves -- I then have to
screen them, read them, summarize them, and pretty much guess at which
info would be of the most interest to you.
Why not just go to the NY Times site on your own and do some fishing
around. For someone with your inveterate curiousity about matters
historical, I would think this would be a must-have site on your
bookmark list.
If you need any instructions as to how to access their archives, just let me know.
Ta-Ta and Cheerio.
