My site has been ranked in top ten for my prospect keyword like this :
chicago hotels, hotels in chicago, hotels downtown chicago, discount
chicago hotels or something like that. But after Nov 15, 2003 my
listing is disappeared and dropped. Currently my site has come back
but they are not shown in top ten or top twenty. My website url is
http://www.hotels-downtown-chicago.com. I checked last month, I got
pagerank7. That's okay for hotels industry. It should get rank well. I
try to change it many time just like change the title, meta tag, body
text and links and also clean up the bad neighbourhood links. How can
I do?

Hi there,

I have for you a philosophical point-of-view, and my own personal
interpretation of the new Google filter, neither of which are likely
to be the answer you are hoping for, hence the comment.

Does your site deserve to be top 10?
------------------------------------
I'm not saying your site isn't useful, or that you haven't put a lot
of time or effort into it. I'm asking if, as a regular person
searching the internet, I would have any need for your site. Affiliate
travel sites are a dime-a-dozen, and merely provide the same
information that the parent company provides. Why would anyone need to
go to the site of any TravelNow associate when they could just go
straight to TravelNow?

The Filter
----------
Affiliate sites had hogged the top spots in Google for a while so
Google introduced (in my opinion) a filter last November to stop this
from happening. Why? - because the fundamental beauty of Google is
link popularity, and most affiliate travel sites achieved their high
ranking via tricking Google - the links to their sites are not
genuine, they are from other sites owned by the same people.

Where do your links come from, and what words are in the links? These
are the reasons why you previously ranked well, and also the reason
why you are now filtered from the results.

The answer is to remove the links from your other sites. This will
stop the filter affecting your position in results, and it will also
reduce your ranking to where it should rightfully be - well out of the
top ten. There is no answer except for making your site so wonderful,
individual and useful that people will choose to link to it.

Thank you for your answer. It was great written. You are very clever
and really knowledgeable. There is one strange fact that is opposite
the model you have so brilliantly (and I suppose quite rightly)
described: domain russian-women.net has several dozens subdomain (I
have counted minimum 50), all the pages of all the subdomain (they
have rather similar content) have links to home pages of all
subdomains. But in Google by keywords 'russian women' and 'russian
girls' they are in the top 10.
Hope we can discuss it. Thank you once more for your clever analization.

Since the recent changes in Google's program, the search function has
become much less useful. For example if you search on the name of a
hotel, you are likely to get page after page of useless computer
generated directories, instead of the hotel's web site.

I wish they would go back to the old program.

In your case:

1. I understood that you website was droped, because your are using
cross links and heavy specific keywords in link text.

2. I understood that google is filtering websites that is affiliate
with travel websites.
