It appears the information you're seeking is too recent. Since it is
only mid-January 2004, those numbers are still being computed by the
DVD industry. Would any previous years be useful to you?

Data from 2002 will suffice. Remember: I need new titles that are
produced, not the total available.

As my colleague Darrel mentioned above, figures for 2003 are difficult
to locate. I spent several hours on this yesterday, and although I was
able to find the number of new DVD titles for 2002, statistics for
2003 were seemingly unavailable. Since the year ended just a few weeks
ago, it appears that no online source has yet published the recent
data.

However, I have found an authoritative offline source that provides
the information you need. In 2003, 9,107 new DVD titles were released.
This represented an increase of 1,880 titles over the new releases of
2002.

From "Entertainment Weekly," Issue #747/748 (January 23/30, 2004), page 87:

"In 2003, a new DVD hit the marketplace every 57 minutes and 42
seconds - an increase of 1,880 titles over 2002's 7,227 record."

In case other statistics related to the DVD marketplace are of
interest, there's an interesting article here:
