Bone spur cannot be detected by a bone scan but myelogram can visualize bone spur. Myelogram: A special x-ray in which dye is injected into the spinal canal, outlining the spinal cord and nerve roots to diagnose disc and bone spur problems. You may receive an intravenous solution prior to being given a local anesthetic. The myelogram may be followed by a CT scan. You will be observed for two to three hours afterwards. You may feel brief periods of discomfort after the injection, and you may have a headache or nausea. Your physician will give you specific instructions prior to your myelogram. Narendar Kumar C. . It's true a bone scan would not be useful. Bone spurs, since they are made of bone, actually show on plain ordinary xrays. To determine whether they are causing a specific problem, MRI or CT scan would normally be used before resorting to myelogram. |
