I would greatly appreciate it if a researcher can help me to find good
non-English agriculture related news portals. It is important that I
should be able to occasionally find news items about the potato
industry on these sites. I prefer URL's of sites in the following
languages: Spanish, German, French, Italian, and Portuguese.

Hello and thanks for the question!

Spanish Websites:
http://www.infoagro.com
http://www.agricultura.org
http://www.agrodigital.com
http://www.cipotato.org/Espanol/index.htm (from no_worries-ga's
comment below)

I was unable to find any German agriculture websites with news on the
potato industry. However, you may be interested in the German Federal
Centre for Cereal, Potato and Lipid Research's website:
http://www.bagkf.de

French Websites:
http://www.terre-net.fr
http://www.pleinchamp.com
http://www.cnipt.com (not exactly sure what this site is, but it has
something to do with the potato industry)
http://www.agrionline.com (again, unsure of the content of this
website)

Italian Websites:
http://www.aiab.it
http://www.patatatipicasiracusa.it
http://www.agricolturabiodinamica.it
http://www.agricolturaoggi.com
http://www.lupria.com

Portuguese Websites:
http://www.megaagro.com.br

That's all the websites I found on my searches. Please note that I
don't speak Spanish, German, French, Italian AND Portuguese, so keep
that in mind while you're going through these websites. Some of these
websites may not be quite what you're looking before because the
machine transation may be off. I believe you will find enough links
to meet your question's need though.

I also have a suggestion for you. You should try going to the Yahoo
website for each of the countries you listed and searching their news
for the word "potato" in the specific language for that website. I'll
show you how to translate potato in just a second. If you can't find
the news link, it's the first link under "Sevices Yahoo!". If that
doesn't help, just translate the word "news" and look for it on the
page.

Spanish: http://es.yahoo.com
German: http://de.yahoo.com
French: http://fr.yahoo.com
Italian: http://it.yahoo.com
Brazil: http://br.yahoo.com (Portugal does not appear to have a Yahoo
website)

My search strategy was a little different than normal. To start off,
I went to WorldLingo.com:
http://www.worldlingo.com/products_services/worldlingo_translator.html

I then entered the words "agriculture", "potato" and "news" and
selected the language I wanted to translate it into.

After translating the words, I went to the Google advanced search page
( ://www.google.com/advanced_search ) and selected the language I
wanted the search results to appear in. I then searched for the
translated terms in the following order:
agriculture potato
agriculture news
agriculture

I then looked for links that looked like they would match your
parameters. While visited the website, I used the Google Toolbar's
"Translate Site" feature to translate these websites into English so I
could make a better estimation of whether or not the website would
suit your needs. You can get the Google Toolbar here:
http://toolbar.google.com/

Thanks for the question and if you require more information regarding
my answer, don't hesitate to ask for clarification. And if you find
this answer satisfactory, please feel free to rate it. Thank you!

I have also found a highly resouceful site (with potatos in mind, but
agriculture in general covered as well). It is in Spanish (or
english) whichever you would prefer (I'm sending you the spanish
version). This newsgroup covers topics from a wide variety of
organizations as well. Hope this helps.
