Hello cognitiveliberty-ga,

The most recent data available on employment by occupation in the US
can be found at the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) website.
http://www.bls.gov

The employment numbers for the ?Major Occupational Groups? for 2002
are listed at the following BLS webpage:

U.S. Department of Labor
Bureau of Labor Statistics
Occupational Employment Statistics
http://www.bls.gov/oes/home.htm

For detailed information, scroll down to ?2002 National
Cross-Industry? under ?Tables Created by BLS: 2002 Employment and Wage
Estimates?.

The total employment for all occupations is 127,523,760.
http://www.bls.gov/oes/2002/oes_00Al.htm

The total for Computer and Mathematical Science Occupations is 2,772,620.
http://www.bls.gov/oes/2002/oes_15Co.htm

You may want to refine this by subtracting occupations such as:

Computer Support Specialists 478,560
Computer Systems Analysts 467,750
Database Administrators 102,090
Network and Computer Systems Administrators 232,560
Network Systems and Data Communications Analysts 133,460
Actuaries 14,440
Mathematicians 2,600
Operations Research Analysts 56,310
Statisticians 17,820
Mathematical Technicians 1,970

Total 1,507,560

==> 2,772,620 ? 1,507,560 = 1,265,060

The total for Architecture and Engineering Occupations is 2,411,260.
http://www.bls.gov/oes/2002/oes_17Ar.htm

You may want to refine this by subtracting occupations such as:

Architectural and Civil Drafters 101,190
Electrical and Electronics Drafters 35,470
Mechanical Drafters 68,280
Aerospace Engineering and Operations Technicians 14,700
Civil Engineering Technicians 88,380
Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technicians 194,960
Electro-Mechanical Technicians 30,360
Environmental Engineering Technicians 18,770
Industrial Engineering Technicians 59,700
Mechanical Engineering Technicians 53,630
Surveying and Mapping Technicians 55,670

Total 721,110

==> 2,411,260 ? 721,110 = 1,690,150

The total for Arts, Design, Entertainment, Sports, and Media
Occupations is 1,503,680.
http://www.bls.gov/oes/2002/oes_27Ar.htm

You may want to refine this by subtracting occupations such as:

Athletes and Sports Competitors 10,400
Coaches and Scouts 87,720
Umpires, Referees, and Other Sports Officials 9,190
Audio and Video Equipment Technicians 35,770
Broadcast Technicians 31,520
Radio Operators 2,510
Sound Engineering Technicians 11,110

Total 188,220

==> 1,503,680 ? 188,220 = 1,315,460

1,690,150 + 1,315,460 + 1,265,060 = 4,270,670

Therefore, an estimate for the number of jobs based on intellectual
property in the US is approximately 4.3 million, or approximately
3.3%.

I hope you have found this information helpful. If you have any
