The words to Michael Leunig's cartoon (or the whole cartoon)based on Dorothea Mackellar's "My Country". This poem is usually quoted from the second stanza which begins "I love a sunburnt country, a land of sweeping plains", and is an poetry landmark in Australia. The cartoon was a spoof version which started with the words "I love a normal country, a land of weeping drains" |

Hi Robmiles is this the one you're looking for? I just happened to come across it at this site: http://www.physics.usyd.edu.au/~nigel/humour.html I couldn't find the actual cartoon that goes it, unfortunately. I love a sunburnt country: I love a sunburnt country; I love a cappuccino; I love a nice, cold glass of beer; I love a drop of pinot; I love the aborigines; I love the farmers too; The trendies and conservatives, I love them through and through I love the multiculturals; The Anglo-Celts as well; The baby boomer greenies, The good old R.S.L.; An intellectual at a book, A logger at a tree; I love the whole damned lot of them And all of them love me! Leunig Sydney Morning Herald, July 20, 1998 |

thanks 'stressedmum'. Don't know how to reply to you directly. This is interesting, as it's a positive version. The one I'm seeking is very black: "Her beauty and her terror, mean nothing much to me".... |
