I am a graduate student (Engineering) and have been working with Information Technology (IT) within the financial services. My position in general has been Application Developer but I have been a business analyst and project manager on a couple of occasions. Although I have been doing pretty well, I am looking to further my career and jump into the business side because of superior compensation growth. I have completed 2 levels of the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) certification and am due for the final level in June. Given these qualifications I seem to have 3 options but am open to other suggestions. One is to stay in IT and use the CFA to get better opportunites but I dont think this to be too lucrative. Option 2 would be to go to a top business school but this seems to be an expensive proposition if done full time and I might be mistaken but feel the MBA bubble may have burst. The third option that seems most interesting is to do another Masters in "Mathematics in Finance" (also called "Computational Finance") and since this involves writing programs to build models I should feel at home given the fact that I am a numbers guy. I would prefer doing this part time but am open to options. Please advise me on future career path that would maximize compensation growth. |
