Dear Vinc3nzo-ga,

Yes, that is real.

Andy has bragged about this serve a lot, and you could even find
information on his website about that serve.

you have to show some evidence that its faked.
vinc3nzo-ga rated this answer:1 out of 5 stars
no offense, but "knowing tennis" is not good enough answer to conclude
that this, truly is faked.

Hi,
I think you posted the same question twice. Anyway...

The commercial is definitely a fake one. "Method Studios" created this
commercial for Coca Cola. Here is the url where you can get info about
the team who developed this commercial

Here are the details to contact them

yeah,m that was accidental, but i don't mind paying the extra four
bucks to find out. i think your answer wasnt conclusive enough, as
the credits for the add do not specifically mention that the shot was
faked.

a) i did read your answer wrong on the top, becuase i had
inadvertantly posted this question twice, one person saying yes its
real, one saying no its not.

b) i will pay for both questions.

c) i agree with indicted-ga, there is no definitive answer yet. so why
is my question closed?

Hi vinc3nzo-ga,

I really hope that the above comments don't burn into your brain that
this is what the service is like on Google-Answers. The reason your
question is locked is because you have rated it already. One thing you
can do, is to ask for a refund, and repost the questions. One of us
will do the research you are asking for at that time. Right now
though, its a bit difficult to keep posting to this thread the way its
become unraveled.

At the bottom of this page is an email address for the google-answers
staff. I would recommend posting an email to them, they are very good
at getting back to you, and I'll keep an eye open if your question
becomes available, possibly get you an answer then.

Thanks,

It's faked.

The proof?:

The webpage that lists this particular "occurance" and the commercial,
say that the serve was a 145mph serve that occured at the French Open.

If you search Google with the following query:
"French Open" +Roddick

The third link down is to CNNSI.com (CNN Sports)

To this page: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/tennis/2001/french_open/news/2001/05/30/french_open_ap/

If you scroll through it you will find the following bit of text on
Roddick:

"Roddick's serve is already among the game's best, and it kept him in
the match when he could barely walk. He topped out at 135 mph, and his
ace total was the highest at the French Open since at least 1991, when
the ATP Tour started keeping such records. " -- The Above URL,
CNNSI.com, "Future outlasts past" by the Paris AP.

But lets assume that that isn't enough evidence.

We search for:
"French Open" 145mph

We have two links returned.

If we search for:
"French Open" "145 mph" we get only six links.

Once again third link down is CNNSI:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/tennis/news/2001/09/10/mailbag/
"Wrapping Up the Open" by Sports Illustrated Senior Writer Jon
Wertheim.

The only comment about 145mph serve in the article is the following:
"You figure, particularly since McEnroe is stressing youth, any
20-year-old with a 145-mph serve ought to be in the mix."

Additionally if you search for:
"French Open" "145 mph" +roddick
You get the above two results. If you make "145 mph" "145mph"
instead, you get no results.

This article http://cbs.sportsline.com/u/ce/feature/0,1518,4054130_7,00.html
labeled "Week 1 Notables" by the SportsLine.com staff contains the
following:

"Taylor Dent notched a Wimbledon record 144 mph serve against Lleyton
Hewitt. He had a 145 mph serve called out earlier in the match. Dent's
serve was the fastest of the season (eclipsing his 142 mph serve at
the Ericsson Open) and the fastest hit since Greg Rusedski's
record-setting blast of 149 mph back in 1998."

No mention of Roddick making a 145mph serve.

Now, lets search for "145mph" and Roddick

The only result I receive that actually brings potential to that being
a true commercial is the following:
http://inbox.malism.com/Maildir/cur/06.30.2001/997325938.794.txt
From SLATE SPORTS, article "Rock 'n' Roll Tennis: Andy Roddick Plays a
Racket Just Like He's Ringing a Bell" by Joseph Nocera.

"So what's Roddick got? For starters, he's got two serious weapons: a
=
monster serve and a killer forehand. His serve is one of the reasons =
people swarm to see him: It's as hard as any on the tour. During his =
third-round match, against Gustavo Kuerten=97the current No. 1 in the
=
world=97he blasted one that was clocked at 145 mph, the second-fastest
=
ever recorded. His forehand is also an absolute rocket and allows him
to =
hit winners even when he's pinned deep on the baseline. But he's not =
just a baseline player (thank goodness); he likes coming to net, and =
he's got a wonderfully feathery touch with his volleys.=20"

THat's the only article I can find that seems to hint at the
commercial being true. Everything I find from the French Open, where
the commercial claims to be taped from, states that Dent had the
145mph serve and never mentions Roddick with anything faster than
135mph.

As a personal opinion from the evidence mounted I would say that it's
most likely a fake in that it didn't happen at the French Open.

Although, it is possible it could have happened elsewhere.

Best of luck to you!

hey look you idiots, the andy roddick really did get the ball stuck in
the clay. it was during the world cup tennis tournament in dusseldorf,
Germany against Alex Corretja. however the actually footage of the
commercial probably was a staged one.

also, just a fun fact, that the fastest serves in tennis is tied at
149 with Greg Rusedski AND Andy Roddick. obviously Maztec needs to
learn more and do more research.
