I am trying to find a resource that lists the top/largest websites
ranked by number of megs...not typical user visits. I know
Neilsen//NetRatings provides information by user visits, but I am more
concerned with the size based on megs. I am willing to pay for such a
source. |

Hi patrickleonard,
I came across a study which was based on data collected in March 2000
- the findings include a list of sixty of the largest websites ranked
by web size. The study is free to view. If this source is good enough
for you, let me know and I'll post the details.

Jack,
Much has changed in the last 4 years, particularly as it regards the
Web...I was hoping there would be a more recent study. Any chance you
can find something fromm 2002 or forward?

Hello again Pat,
Please check out this site. It appears to have, or keep up with, the
most up-to-date information, though the listing is "preliminary and
likely incomplete since we lack a complete census of Deep-Web sites".
(Much of the data is based on the report I mentioned to you before).

I think this is the best I can do. If you find the information useful,
please let me know.

Hello patrickleonard-ga,
I was very curious as to the answer to your question, and had a look
at the link that jackburton-ga provided. The 60 sites listed are
incredibly enormous sites. The largest, a NOAA weather statistics
site, is 366,000 *gigabytes*, and contains over 41 billion records.
Even if the data is a few years old, sites of this magnitude do not
come along very often, and when they do, they are usually associated
with a good deal of fanfare and visibility. From what I can see, the
list is a pretty good one (though there doubtless have been at least
some changes in the past few years).
Nevertheless, you may want to consider accepting the list an an answer
to your question. I suspect you will not find a more comprehensive or
recent accounting of web site file sizes.
Just my two cents...
