Hi Researchers,

I need some help. I have recently befriended a great person who
happens to be a Scientologist...

Although I have a layman's perception of this religion and have
browsed various sites describing Scientology since meeting him, I'm
seeking a more personal understanding of this religion. In other words,
I need to know what to do in order to not offend him in any
way....whether through communication or just simple daily routines...

Please feel free to post any clarification as I know this may be rather vaque.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks dancethecon and poe for your comments.

I have seen the previous GA question on Scientology and I have been to
both websites.

I guess what I am trying to learn is the day to day stuff of being
with a Scientologist.

For example: My friend never complains or speaks ill of anyone or
anything that has happened in his life (his life being a very
difficult one to say the least).
Also, his food preparation/preferances are very defined and adhered to...
This is what I want to learn more about...

Hope this makes a little more sense.

Thanks

Have you read this Google Answers Q&A on Scientology?

My personal belief is that nobody should be offended by anyone who is
merely being honest, but I do realise that it happens nonetheless.

I'll leave it to others to post a full answer to your question, but
the two sides of the Scientology coin are easily accessible. If you
look through the following two sites equally with an open mind, it
should help you to find an understanding of what Scientologists stand
for and of what their opponents accuse them.

The Church of Scientology
http://www.scientology.org/

Operation Clambake
http://www.xenu.net/

Finally, I'd like to offer my appreciation that there is someone left
on this planet who is willing to befriend someone without judgement
who exists outside of their usual sphere of understanding. It does
bode well for the world.

Just make sure you are not confucing Scientology with Christian
Science. They are not the same. Scientology is by far the more
controversial religion, as you can see from the link provided by
poe-ga at http://www.xenu.net/.
