When General Rochambeau and the French Army were departing Newport for
the trek to Yorktown in August 1781, the British spy Marquard got
information and passed it along to General Clinton in New York that,
?Colonel Rochambeau, Son of the Count, told his girl yesterday, that
he had a horse ready for her and that she must be this evening at
North Castle Church. This mistress is a Rhode Island Lady, who
followed him unknown to his father, as he will allow no kept
mistresses.? My question is that I need the story of the girl as she
follows Vicomte Rochambeau to Yorktown.
