Hi Giz!
I was unable to post my comment as a response earlier. I wanted also
to supplement my comment with further details so that you end up with
the best answer possible and can explore the Syracuse to its fullest!

DATE SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES!
Not sure when you'll be in town, but there are a couple of events that
are date specific and would be fun for the whole family:
Fleet Syracuse Arts & Crafts Festival (June 28-30)
http://www.downtownsyracuse.com/Happening/Calendar/ArtShow/home.html
Along with art, food and music, "families play a big role in the
festival's success, and interactive art activities are offered with
them in mind. Box City, sponsored by Southern Container, allows kids
to construct a city out of cardboard boxes, one building at a time.
Young builders design and erect houses, factories, skyscrapers, retail
stores, shopping malls, hotels, sports arenas and more. With the aid
of volunteer professional architects and students, kids learn how
geography, economics, ecology, history, and cultures affect the
development of a community. Organic puppetry workshops give kids the
opportunity to make puppets from household objects and participate in
puppet shows."
The Official Site of the Great New York State Fair (August 22 -
September 2)
http://www.nysfair.org
Kids under 12 get in FREE, $8/adults at gate, $4/adults in advance.
The New York State Fair is held in Syracuse, about 5 miles west of the
city center, and includes all sorts of fun activities including "Kids
Fest" (clowns, animals, and flying trapeze artists), a daily parade,
the Sea Lion Splash, and KiddieLand (entertainment especially for
young children). This really looks like fabulous event -- I might
need to plan a visit to Syracuse myself to check out the State Fair!

HEAD TO THE PARK!
New York has a wonderful state park system. Your kids might enjoy
running around the various parks located close to Syracuse.
An interesting article on parks in Central NY:

Some useful info about the parks in Central NY (Syracuse is located in
Onodaga County and it looks like Clark Reservation, Green Lakes, State
Park at the Fair, and Frenchman Island are all parks located in this
region):

NEED A SNACK?
And, while you're exploring Syracuse and the surrounding area, you
guys might get hungry (and the kids might need a reprieve from being
in the car). Check out the McDonald's listed below. Not the most
nutritious, but ALL have a PlayLand or PlayPlace that your children
might enjoy!

I hope this gives you some more ideas about kid-friendly activities in
the Syracuse area. Please feel free to clarify if you need any
further information!
