Hi, Bryan I?m so surprised. Thank you very much. Looking forward to your questions still to come. Actually, I?m still wondering how you are going to find your misplaced books. I happen to know someone trying to solve a similar problem. Regards, Freddy |

Hi, Freddy I think that the problem is essentially one of organisation and that the libraries provide a good model. I would use a database, the favourite being Bowler's recommendation: http://www.skali.com.my/index.php?ch=15&pg=128&ac=704&ct=59 It looks suitable for home collections (and affordable) whereas the one suggested by Hummer: http://www.abebooks.com/docs/homebase/main.shtml Is slanted towards booksellers. I'm thinking of storing the books by Product Number which (maybe) I could scan in (it's based on the ISBN). Of course, not all books have an ISBN but (maybe) by supplementing these with my own Product Numbers, I could cover the lot. I'm still investigating the scanning stuff. It's apparently not expensive. If this seems to be a goer, then I could print my own-generated Product Codes (in Bar Code format) and stick them on a suitable cover which would also protect each book. That's the general idea. But, please, keep this under your hat. It's strictly hush, hush, confidential. Warmest regards Bryan |

Hi Brian, I just happened to come across the following info and I thought of you (WANTED: Hotshot Librarian to advise on ISBNs). In any event, the link gives some fascinating statistics. Book Industry Statistic: - 1.5 million titles in print (currently available in the U.S.) - Since 1776, 22 million titles have been published. --Jerrold Jenkins, 15 May 99. http://www.JenkinsGroup.com Copyright 1996-2003 Para Publishing http://parapub.com/statistics/ Regards, hummer |

Hi, Bowler How could anyone as switched on as you miss anything? I suspect a drunken orgy. Again. This is getting to be a habit. Please snap out of it or you'll get as silly as me. Warmest Rearguards Bryan |
