I need a list of the 150 largest European banks and the 150
largest European Insurance companies. Parent and Subsidiary companies
should be treated as a single entity. I need the list to be accurate
and not
just the names of several banks and insurance companies thrown
together. Thanks

I am aware of a published list, in rank order, of several hundred of
the largest European banks, and would not be surprised if a similar
list existed for insurance firms.

For copyright reasons, the lists cannot be reproduced here as part of
an answer to your question. We can, however, certainly provide you
full and complete information for obtaining such lists from the
publishers(presuming we can find them both!) Typically, the
publishers would charge a fee for the lists, above and beyond anything
that you paid here at Google Answers.

If both lists can be located, would you accept an answer that provided
details for purchasing each of the lists from the publishers?

Let us know, and we may be able to find you the information you are seeking.

Thanks.

Thanks. I wouldn't be prepared to pay $75 for the referral of a list
provider. If it is not Hoovers then I would be happy to pay $25.
Would you also tell me the cost of these sites. Thanks.

ptm - thanks for submitting your question to our forum!!

I've located several reliable sources for bank data, but none that
would provide 150 top banks; however, I do have a source from which
you could procure such a list for about $50. There are actually a
variety of sources from which you could procure such data - if you are
a member of the financial community, there is one source that will
provide the data at no cost, but you will need to register with them -
and they will attempt to verify your status.

As for data which I can provide you with freely (i.e.
non-copyrighted), there are several options (and I would gladly
provide you with all of them, of course...)
+ Top 60 banks by assets as of end of 2002
+ Top 60 banks by country - very rich in data
+ Several dozen largest European banks as of 1999 (looks like between 60 and 70)

As for insurance companies, I have not had any luck locating for-free
resources; I'm sure there are fee-based services which I could locate
and point you to if you are interested, and I continue to search for
free sources.

Please let me know if you are interested in the bank data I had
located. You may want to consider splitting your question into two
separate queries so that I may provide you with the banking
information and continue working on the insurance company information
(or perhaps another researcher will be able to locate insurance
company data).

thanks,
ragingacademic
