I am travelling to South Africa (either Durban or Cape Town)this spring to have
some extensive dental work done.  I will be staying for approximately
one year. How can I find good, affordable, convenient housing? I have
tried searching the normal internet links, and have only been able to
find vacation or home sales, or very expensive penthouses, etc.

There are plenty of real estate agents in South Africa who can help
you via the internet, just the way an agent in the US (or wherever you
happen to be) could help you locally.

I'm not sure how much R 765,000 is in dollars, but I imagine it's a
good deal less than the rents on the types of properties you've been
finding thus far.
