I am Looking into HCI and the considerations needed to create a
graphical user interace for adults with a profound learning
disability. I am aiming to create an interface to allow people with a
LD to communicate using email.
The interface will host a picture based sentence builder and i need
information on the layout of the interface(traits that need to be
considered when building for people with a disability)and the use of
pictures for verbs, nouns etc.to build a coherent sentence

Hi hill2004,

A program for writing with symbols and then sending the email as text
already exists. Would you be interested in learning about available
software as an answer?

Thanks,
hummer

Hi
Yes i'm aware there is a package called writing with symbols, i am
researching a much more individual package for a girl who has a
profound learning disability.
I have researched into interface design (Schneiderman 8 rules of
interface design) and other very generalised rules and principles but
have been finding it difficult to find anything that is specific to
learning diabilities (traits are short term memory, short attentsion
spad), when building the interface what colours are difficult to see
if poor eye sight? size location of icons/pictures......
I'm after research done, principles built and anything else on the
design of the interface for people with LD.
Also anything on the use of pictures to create sentences, the pictures
are going to be very personilised photographs for activities and
people its just the verbs to go, went etc that i need assistence on
picturising.
I understand that this is alot but if you are able to find some
quality research then i could possible increase my list price.
Thank you for the interest,
hill2004
