I want to know the location, depth and approximate size of the three shallowest areas/spots in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Ocean that is at least 300 miles from land, (including any small islands and/or reefs). Any further information about the seafloor in these shallow areas would be appreciated. |

alby2003-ga, Although this is not a definitive answer to your question, I think I can help out s little bit here. One of the key oceanographic features yo're looking for is called a sewamount. These are undersea mountains that rise from the seafloor to within a few feet of the surface. Try searching Google for "seamounts" + marine/oceanographic charts. Also, technically the water surrounding any island will be shallow immediately surrounding the island. So the waters off islands like Bermuda may fit your bill. If you're reading oceanographic charts, the darker the color of blue, the deeper the water, and the depth is usually expressed in fathoms, with 1 fathom being equal to six feet. Hope this helps, omniscientbeing-ga |

omniscientbeing-ga, I appreciate your comments. I will try the search you suggested but I have as of yet been unable to find any definite answers to where the shallowest "seamounts" are actually located using Google. Just to clarify my question. The shallow areas/seamounts I am looking for has to be located at least 300 miles from any land/island/reef so anything close to Bermuda would not be of interest. Regards Alby |
