Hello bubba61y-ga:

It was a pleasure answering your question. Probably, the best and the
simplest database for this kind of information is located at
http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0004615.html. It provides the American
war casualties from the Revolutionary war up to the Gulf War in 1991.

For an overview of the total number of casualties, so far in Iraq,
please consult: http://www.cbc.ca/news/iraq/issues_analysis/casualties_postiraqwar.html
This study is accurate as of Jan 22, 2204. It reports 505 deaths. If
you include the last three days (including Jan 25), the total number
of casualties increase to 512. Please review
http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/meast/01/25/sprj.nirq.main/index.html

The latest count of casualties in Afghan War from AP was on 12 Jan
2004. On that day, it reported the US casualties reaching 100. Please
consult http://www.unknownnews.net/casualties.html. Here is a similar
excerpt from CNN for a brief commentary:

Is there a common reason for the deaths not attributed to combat?

I am interested in what the reason(s) for "other deaths in service"
means-- Look under Civil War Union/224,097 how or what
killed these folks? Is that reason the same for the rest of the Wars?
