I am looking to buy liability insurance to protect me if somebody slips on the sidewalk on the snow or ice and sues me, but I do not want fire insurance for my home which costs more than what I am willing to pay. Does anybody know of company which sells such liability insurance without the homeowners package? | |

You want Personal Umbrella Insurance. Washington Mutual (www.wamuins.com) and HomeSite (www.homesite.com) offer this in MD. Remember that in the case of covered losses, such as those from auto, home, or boat, the umbrella will be secondary and in the case of libel, slander, defamation, false arrest, etc, it will be primary. You simply may not be able to purchase umbrella insurance without the HO/auto coverage without going to the excess & surplus or specialty markets. I know this doesn't help you very much but it's the way the US market is set up. |
