"How many books were published in the U.S. in 2003?"

Request for Question Clarification by blackbird-ga on 27 Jan 2004 08:54 PST
The most recently published statistics I can find cover 2002. Would
this be acceptable as an answer? I imagine it may be some time before
statistics for 2003 are available (the 2002 statistics were published
in May 2003).

Yes, the number of books published in 2002 is fine. Thank you.

Dear books2929

Thank you for your question. The answer is 150,000 titles, according
to an R.R. Bowker news release of May 26, 2003:

"R.R. Bowker, the leading provider of bibliographic information in
North America, today released a wide range of statistics on the U.S.
book industry compiled from its Books In Print? database. The most
notable finding is that U.S. title output increased 5.86 % to 150,000
new titles and editions in 2002."
