Hello Bobalink,
The best way to handle the file you have is to use a file conversion
utility. I converted the Galant file with the this one, but others may
work as well.
http://download.com.com/3000-2255-10139190.html?tag=lst-0-1
Transtype 2.1.1 - free to try (for up to three days) and $97 to buy
and use indefinitely. It should work on any version of classic Mac OS
after 7.6. I installed it using 9.2 and it worked just fine. If you
upgrade to Mac OS X, it also works under the Classic environment as
well.
To get the application using the link above:
click on the "Download Now" link
You should get a file named
TransType 2.1.1 DEMO Installer
Double click on that file and you should get a dialog box indicating
where to install the application. Select the disk to use (if you have
more than one) and then Install. You also have to accept the license
agreement - I suggest you review it first.
After the installation is done, a window popped up with the TransType
2 DEMO application inside. Double click on that file to run the
application. A window should appear with two blank areas at the top
and some buttons on the bottom.
Click the + button to and then select the file (e.g., galant5.ttf). If
you have more than one file to convert, select them as well to build
up the list at the top. There's a button that looks somewhat like O;
click it to convert the file(s). You will be prompted for the location
to put the converted files. After that step, you should see the
progress of font conversion. When done, click the far right button
(looks like a door) to exit.
At this point, drag the converted font files into your Fonts folder.
It should be something like
System Folder
Fonts
At this point, try an application (or KeyCaps) to view the converted fonts.
Some other font utility programs are listed at:
http://download.com.com/3150-2255-0.html?tag=stbc.gp
or another font converter at
http://www.freelang.net/fonts/mac_convert.html
To search for more of these types of applications, try search strings such as
macintosh font converter
mac os 9 truetype font converter
or similar phrases.
Please let me know if you have any problems following this answer or
need further help through a clarification request.
