How many financial services firms are there worldwide in the
broker/dealer category and what are the segments based on size? I
have a good feel for the US market and need assistance on non-US
firms.

In addition, how many mutual funds are present worldwide again by
segments based on size? I'm looking for counts for both US and non-US
and I'm looking for firms that probably are large enough that they
have their own trading desks to move securities.

Hello--

I've got some calls out to some experts in these areas, thinking the
latest information may or may not be readily available online.

In the meantime, I have a point of clarification if you don't mind:
When you say "financial services firms" and "broker/dealer" are you
referring to mutual funds? insurance? All?

Thanks,

darrel-ga

NDJ--

I just realized this was posted as an "answer" instead of the intended
"clarification requestion." I have asked Google-Answers Editors to
remove this as an answer, so your question can then be answered. But I
would like to know the information requested above.

Thanks,

I'm looking for information in two major categories, Broker/Dealers
and Mutual Funds, and not Insurance Companies or Hedge Funds. I'm
seeking to find how these two major groups are segmented by size and
geography and how many are in each segment. If you had the names, it
would be a great bonus.

What I'm doing the research for is to find the firms who may be
trading securities using their own trading desks. Any of the firms in
these two categories, Broker/Dealers and Mutual Funds, that are medium
size or larger will be doing so.

ndj - hi and welcome back to our forum. I've been working this
question for quite some time now, and wanted to apprise you of what I
have uncovered.

As far as mutual funds go, I have in-depth data, both US and
worldwide, that reflects the number of mutual funds, their size,
segmentation etc.

As far as broker/dealers go, I can provide you with statistical data
for the US and access to a database that will allow you to retrieve
the name and address (plus other info) of every US broker and
financial institution.

However, I have not been able to discover a source for data relating
to brokers/dealers worldwide. This is the only component of your
request I am coming up empty handed on...

Please let me know if you would like me to post what I have as a reply
- one option is to reduce the price of this question somewhat (say to
$150) and to repost the balance of this question as a new question.

Eagerly awaiting your reply -

Hi, we're working together again on this subject. Sorry for the delay
I was travelling. I've got the information on the US Broker Dealers.
What I need are the Broker Dealers outside of the US which I
understand from your request for clarification you don't have that
info. I still need to know the segmentation of the larger mutual
funds worldwide;; medium and small aren't of interest. What would be
the price for this info? Thanks, ndj
