I am booking a movie called AKA - It's Wiley World to to go on tour
and wanted to see if you could do some research. I need to make a
list of every independently owned, chain and college movie 
theaters in PA, NJ, NY, DE, MD, DC, MA, NH, RI, VT, VA, NC. We need to 
compile a list of: theater name, address, phone number, e-mail address, 
contact name, seating capacity, projection capability.

This is a tough one. 

I can locate a list of these theaters, with their names, addresses,
and phone numbers. This list would not include E-Mail, contact names,
seating capacities, and projection capabilities. Would this be
acceptable?

Hi Darrel,
A List with their names, addresses and phone numbers would be fine.
The important thing is that the list is complete. All the lists I
found online so far had very few independent theaters. Thanks!

I racked my brain on this one for quite some time before I arrived at
how to find the most comprehensive list possible.

First, I found some organization web sites such as the National
Association of Theater Owners. I looked at individual state branches,
but they didn't produce the complete list you're looking for.

That's when I checked out my favorite business listing database,
Switchboard.com. This database provided a very detailed listing that
includes every independently owned, chain and college movie theater in
PA, NJ, NY, DE, MD, DC, MA, NH, RI, VT, VA, NC. Google-Answers Terms &
Conditions prohibits me from cutting-and-pasting large amounts of text
in this forum. However, I'll provide you with direct links to the

 Thanks the lists look good. It will help a lot. But I have two questions:
1. There does not seem to be many college movie theaters, Most in my
local area were not listed. Can you find more?
2. Do you know a way to DataBase all this info, Besides using cut & paste?

I will do some more work for you to see what I can find regarding
college theaters. When I perused this database, I saw quite a few
college theaters. But I know you say it's missing a good number.

Regarding the database/spreadsheet, I'm assuming you're looking to
drop this information into a program like Excel or Access. There's
probably not an easy, clean way of doing this. I've done a great deal
of spreadsheet/database creation and know that this looks like a big
job. I would just try to set up the spreadsheet in a way that makes it
the easiest possible way to "clean it up," as that step will likely
take the longest.

I thought about telephoning the NATO (National Association of Theater
Owners) and seeing if we could simply download their database of
theaters, which potentially could be quite simple. But judging by
their online directories, there probably wouldn't be nearly as many
theaters involved - maybe as low as one-tenth as many.

I will let you know if I think of any other spreadsheet/database tips
that you could make this easy, but I know creating such a document
would be time consuming. I will also keep working on the college
theaters.
