I am attempting to develop a Java based desktop application (must be able to operate without a network connection) which relies on several large databases, the largest of which contains almost 130,000 records. What is the best database format and management system for such an application? I am most familiar with programming for MAC OSX |

I'm not too familiar with Java and databases, but consider: MySQL on Mac OS X - http://developer.apple.com/internet/macosx/osdb.html FileMaker Pro - http://www.filemaker.com/ |

You said several large databases? What is the total record number that all databases will have? Also, how your quickly your databases will grow? How many entitities databases will have and they will be organized, i.e. do Database Design. Then you can make a decision which database format and management system to use (RDBMS). |
