Every time my Norton Antivirus software catches an infected email
(which of course happens very frequently these past few days), it
responds with a pop-up window displaying a "Scan Summary". The window
stays there (and blocks further downloading of emails) until I
manually click on the "Finished" button.

This is very annoying. It interrupts other work I'm doing when Outlook
Express periodically downloads email, and it often results in
duplicate downloads of emails.

I want Norton to just quarantine or delete the infected email without
it bothering me with a request for manual confirmation. But I cannot
find any way to select that option. Nor have I been able to find any
useful information on Symantec's web site (I can't even find how to
post this question on-line to their technical support).

Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem?

My computer is running Windows XP, Outlook Express, SBC/Yahoo DSL,
Zone Alarm, and Norton Systemworks 2003.

Hi dpwiener,

It can be distracting and time consuming when Norton Anti Virus asks
for confirmation.

The way to stop that is:

Right Click on the Norton AntiVirus icon and select: Configure Norton AntiVirus

You will see 3 boxes on the left side - the middle one says Internet
and under that EMAIL

On the right side of that panel you'll see Email Scanning, and the
middle section: How to respond when a Virus is found.

Tick/check the first option which is: Automatically repair the
infected file (recommended)

Click OK.

Doing so will eliminate an manual confirmation requests.

(No search terms were used) - Personal experience - I have Norton
AntiVirus protection.

Best regards,

Thank you. I did what you suggested, and it seemed to help a great
deal. However, it is still not 100%. In the past day I've had three
or four instances in which the "Scan: Summary" window pops up and
demands that I click the "Finished" button. However, that's about 5%
or 10% of what I was getting before (although it's hard to tell how
much is due to a decrease in the number of infected emails I'm
receiving). The situation is at least tolerable now.

I have the same problem, but I cannot find a "Norton Antivirus Icon".
There is a Norton Internet Security icon on my system tray, but not
one specifically for Norton Antivirus. I tried the Norton Internet
Security icon, but I cannot find the options mentioned. Norton
Internet Security came with my Sony VAIO computer, I didn't purchase
it separately.
