I am trying to find out how many internet cafes there are worldwide
and specifically how these breakdown into numbers in Europe, USA,
India and Australia. Also what other ways could someone access the
internet if they are travelling and not staying in hotels and maybe
not carrying a Laptop ie backpackers?

Are you aware of this site:

http://www.cybercafes.com/

that lists more than 4,000 internet cafes around the world. While I'm
sure this is not a complete list, in can be awfully handy just the
same. For instance, they have 417 cafes listed in India, sorted on a
city by city basis.

Let me know if that helps.

I did not know about the cybercafe site and this certainly helps
enormously but I would like to know if it is possible to be more
accurate about total numbers ie are there likely to be many more than
those listed on the site and approximately how many? Also would like
suggestions for access points and means of access other than
cybercafes. If you can give me more than the excellent site you have
suggested to date I would be grateful. Iago
