Dear jellybeans,

I am quite sure that the song is "Body Language" by the British group
"The Dooleys", issued as a single (GTO #GT276) in 1980 after it had
won the Gold Award at the 1979 Tokyo Music Festival. In the UK charts,
it peaked at only #46.
The problem is, I can't prove it, so I give this information for free.
Maybe one of my colleagues does better than I.

Here is some information on The Dooleys:

I don't think the song is performed by Abba. Although some of the
instrumental style is very Abba-esque, the vocals don't sound like
either Agnetha or Anna-Frid singing. Also, a web search for abba "body
language" - which is a repeated phrase - doesn't produce any hits. If
it were an Abba song I'd expect it to show up on a lyrics page. The
search abba "it's the best i can do" produces the first ten hits all
to Abba lyrics pages for the song Knowing Me Knowing You.

I agree with Owain: the vocals do not sound like ABBA. It's certainly
an ABBA-influenced song, but I think it's mimicry, not the real thing.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to hear the track. If it is the
correct track it certainly was The Dooleys hit Body Language, although
there was also a male vocal version of the song by a group called
HENDY (the lead singer of which had a hairstyle very similer to that
of Jim Dooley, and sounded a bit like him too).

The song was written by Ben Findon, Mike Myers and Bob Puzey and
produced by Findon, who had also worked with Billy Ocean and The
Nolans. The gold prize the song won in Tokyo was the second prize in
the competition and was won on the day that Dooley sister Kathy
celebrated her birthday. (As I am a gentleman, I wont say which
birthday).

12 months later they were awarded the Club Mirror Club Acts Award for
the best group, thus proving how good this much under-rated group
were.

The opening lines (after piano opening chords) should be -
"When you move up close to me,
I can feel your body heat,"

By the way, my name is Mike and I am the author of the site pophedz
(so many thanx for the mention above)
Pophedz is still on the web, but there is a slightly better site now available too

It has lots more on the group that I think is the greatest pop group
ever. Hope you enjoy it.
