I work for a professional services firm that is a loose confederation
of partnerships around the world. We provide highly valued services to
our clients, however there is the perception that we cannot deliver on
a global basis as well as our competitors. Our primere target clients
are multi-national coporations that view us as a single entity -
therefore we must "be seen to behave" as a single entity.

Issues that we face include:
- no global P&L and therefore issues of how people will be compensated
for working on global accounts versus focusing on their local book of
business
- no desire to create a global P&L due to liability issues
- several groups within the firm that operate in silos
- disperate technologies
- lack of total buy-in to the concept of behaving as a global firm - a
lot of large egos involved who believe they are better off as they are
- each country has its own leadership team that needs to be persuaded
to buy-in to the concept

I am looking for any research/case studies that demonstrates or lays
out a project plan for the successful globalization of a professional
services firm with similar issues.

Specifically I'd like to know:
- what was done that was successful
- key items to consider
- key items to stay away from
- what was done that was not succesful (i.e. lessons learned)
- specifics around:
  - suggested communication strategies
  - creating buy-in
  - overcoming potential roadblocks
  - creating incentives other than monetary incentives
  - persuasive messaging/benefit analysis

This is a very important topic and I'm looking only for a well
thought-out response that can serve as a guidline as I put a project
plan together.

I am willing to pay the highest price of $200 for quality research and
there would be a tip if what's received proves highly valuable.

Check out any of the "big accounting firms" they all have gone though
the process in the last few years ( at least those that are left).

While the answers to your issues are not that difficult, in the
consulting business they are worth more than $200...

Good luck..

An often used case study in business school, is KPMG's efforts to
create global knowledge management that in turn has led to a
breaking-down of some of the silo walls as consultants around the
world began to benefit from sharing their knowledge.
