Hi eskimodog~ According to the U.S. Postal Service, the correct way to address a letter does *not* include a period after the ZIP code, and never has. For more information about the history of the ZIP code, check out "Publication 100: The United States Postal Service: An American History," at http://www.usps.com/cpim/ftp/pubs/pub100/pub100.htm For tips on how to properly address a letter or package, see "Addressing Tips and Tools," at the USPS website: http://www.usps.com/send/preparemailandpackages/labelsandaddressing/usingthecorrectaddress.htm Regards, Kriswrite RESEARCH STRATEGY: A search at the U.S. Postal Service website |

There should be no period in the inside address either (the one on the letter, as opposed to the envelope). Date Recipient Address City, State 99999-1234 Dear Recipient: (Note: use comma instead of colon for non-business letters) Blah, blah, blah. Sincerely, Sender |
