Where can I find a chart, graph, or statistical data that shows the financial impact of drug and alcohol abuse on the healthcare system, specifically in Texas. This information should include a comparison of addiction treatment with other healthcare services such as hospitalization, trauma, and cancer. I do not want a pay/fee site for the information. | |

Thank you very much for accepting my suggestion as the answer to your question. I have reposted the link below. TCADA: Economic Costs of Alcohol and Drug Abuse in Texas - 2000 http://www.tcada.state.tx.us/research/economics/EconomicCostsDec2000.pdf I located this document by visiting the website of the Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse. I performed a search of the site using the keyword "costs," which provided a link to a document entitled "Economic Costs of Alcohol and Drug Abuse in Texas - 2000." I found the statistics you need in Table 1.1 within that document. I hope this information will be useful. Best regards, pinkfreud |

Economic cost estimates need to be evaluated carefully. See, for example, "The Economic Costs of Alcohol Abuse" at http://www2.potsdam.edu/alcohol-info/Controversies/1109123701.html |

The information that I was/am looking for is related to the actual monies spent on healthcare related to alcoholism and drug addiction. The TCADA site displayed the information that I was/am looking for. The article you suggested is quite interesting, however, and gives great pause for thought. Thank you for the further information regarding this matter. |
