I have a picture, probably some sort of a silk screen process dating back to purchase in circa l950 and on the original price tag there is a word that appears to be (PERANE-SES). The picture is on the back side of the glass. The picture is of Trajan's Arch at Beneventum. I would like to know the meaning of that word (one letter not ledgeable) and any other information about the process if available. | |

Hi Lamont, The word sounds like a deviation of the Italian artist Piranesi - Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1778) who was an Italian engraver. Go to this link and see if the picture bears any similarity to his engraving of Trajan's Arch. http://sights.seindal.dk/sight/1241_Arch_of_Trajan.html Michael |

Hi Michael, I looked at the photo and it is not the same. It is quite different actually. There is no grid, screen, or whatever shown in your photo in the arch. Mine is a view slightly from the right and has two figures under the arch and three and a horse to the right foreground and a horseman in the right background. On the left, only partially visible is another ruins and there are other structures in the background. |
