This question is an update of an earlier posting. In the early to mid
'70's, most likely between June '73 and December '74, radio station
WHAM in Rochester, NY, played a tune with some lyrics like the
following:
"Has he kissed you good-bye for the very last time, has he gone far
away to stay..." and
"What use are the tears, What use are the fears"
and
Dry your eyes, Maggie, sad, sad, eyes".
I thought this was from a Broadway musical but there is evidently not
one from that time with quite those lyrics. WHAM's format at the time
was adult pop with a mixture of Big Band and old show tunes. I
believe this tune charted nationally but it might have been produced
only in Rochester.
If anyone remembers this tune, I would like to know the title and record label.
If by chance anyone from Rochester, NY remembers WHAM and this
particular tune, I'd like to know if this song was perhaps locally
produced and never released nationally, which might explain why it has
been so hard to track down.
Thanks. |
