Is there an annual ranking of PhD programs in various fields like
there is for undergraduate and professional colleges? Please refer me
to any digital or written sources.

jason2k1 - thanks for your question. A couple of clarifications would help:
1) Which disciplines are you interested in? Would a ranking of
business phds suffice?
2) Does the ranking have to be annual? What if it is an occassional study?

thanks,
Erik

Erik-
1. Ideally, as many disciplines as possible, but if you can only find
business, that would still be very helpful.
2. As long as it's recent, it does not have to be annual.
Thanks!

Jason,
Here are two sources of information and rankings that should prove
helpful. The first covers all graduate programs; the second is a
premier source of information about business schools and programs.

http://www.businessweek.com/bschools/index.html

I hope this helps.

Scribe,

I appreciate your attempt, but the first link deals only with
professional schools (MD, JD, MBA), and the second with MBAs. I am in
need of a ranking for PHDs (not MAs or MSs either).

Hi Jason,
Apparently the ball was in my court, to "clarify answer." Now that I
have hit the appropriate button, the question should "pop up" again,
and ragingacadmeic will be able to give you his findings. I hope.

several disciplines including psychology, sociology, business (with
breakdown by segment e.g. marketing, finance etc.), physics and a
