Question ID: 304218
I have purchased a 20GB ibm deskstar hard drive, model IC35L020AVERY07-0.
I cannot get my computer's BIOS to recognise it. My processor is a
Pentium II 133MHz.The motherboard is P61440BX BrillianX 1S.

Can the computer be persuaded to recognise the hard disk? If so, how?

Hi 3118652,

Have you tried all of the common possibilties such as checking that
the jumper is set to the proper choice of Master or Slave on the
drive? On some computers, CS or Cable Select is not a good choice for
the BIOS to recognize a drive.

If so, have you double checked that the IDE cable and power connector
are properly seated? Is the red stripe on the IDE cable on the side
close to the power connector?

Have you tried another IDE cable?

I assume your BIOS allows you to set your hard drives as "AUTO" for
auto detecting. Is that correct and have you tried those settings? YOu
are entering Setup on boot, navigating to the BIOS page for drives and
attempting to auto-detect, are you not?

Have you tried this drive in another computer? It could be a defective drive?

Provide a few more details and answers to the above and I shall try to
help further.

Regards,

IBM Feature Tool should probably be able to help you:

Feature Tool (v1.92)
Change the predefined capacity of the drive. This option can be used
in situations where there is a BIOS limitation and the drive is not
recognized. See the Users Guide for specific details.

hi there are two actions you can take

1) is to manual input your harddisk to the bios i.e sectors , capacity etc
2) is to update to a newer version of your bios
