Hi. I'm looking to buy (rather quickly) a model of the HMS Warrior.
This is NOT the "wooden" one, it's the one that entered service in
1946 as an aircraft carrier. It became part of the Canadian Navy.
I'm guessing the official designation may be HMCS Warrior (R31).

I'm trying to find quality pre-made models of the ship. At worst,
I'll accept places that will custom make the model, but the turnaround
must be quick (1-2 weeks).

Thanks in advance.

Scary

Hello again Scaryberry,
Sorry I couldn't any pre-made model yet, though I'll look for custom
wooden model ship makers. Someone though scratchbuilt a Colossus-class
carrier (the type HMCS Warrior was) in a small scale:

http://www.modelwarships.com/reviews/ships/hms/vengeance/700-jra/vengeance.html

I hope this just gives ideas. I was unable to find any Colossus-class
carrier kit, I'm afraid.

Thank you techtor. I'd also be willing to accept as an answer a
modeller who would take on a "commission" to create the Warrior.

Thanks again,

Scary

Hello again Scaryberry,
Are you still set on two weeks? That seems too short to make a custom
model, as I've found some custom modeler companies who might take two
to three months to make wooden scale models that would cost upwards of
$300 (not counting shipping). I understand this may not follow your
requirements, but this likely may be that best there can be. Do tell
me if this is still acceptable to you.

By the way, where are you located? I could try to find the company
that's nearest you.

Hi Techtor. Sorry for the amount of involvement in this question.
I will accept as an answer the custom-built sources.
Alternately (or additionally), I'd be willing to accept a painting or
other art form of the Warrior. This is for an 80th birthday gift, for
a veteran of the Warrior. Anything resembling the ship, and
identifiable as the Warrior, would probably work. My first thought
was a model, but an artwork would suffice as well.

Thanks for your time.

Hello Scaryberry,
Since I believe you have given me the go signal to post an answer,
I'll post what I've found now. First I gathered a list of custom model
ship makers, those that could build a commissioned topic. They will
take long though. I included the conditions of the first site just to
give an idea. Typically, a commissioned model ship would start at
$300, minus shipping.
After that I included other custom ship builders, but seem limited in
their topics. I included them anyway in case you might want to try
them and could get a special accommodation.
I also included painters who could possibly do a painting of the
Warrior. Just show them photographs on the Internet maybe, or order
one and send it to them, so they could make a painting. I'm afraid
there are no ready made paintings of the HMCS Warrior, even in its
other stints like the one in Argentina.
This is all for now, I hope the results will help you.

Hello Scaryberry,
I do ship modeling as a hobby (just plastic ships though), and I
frequent two sites about it:

Model warships
http://www.modelwarships.com

Steel Navy
http://www.steelnavy.com

Perhaps you could inquire in the message boards of these websites to
see if you could be lead to someone who could make this particular
ship. I know of no model of HMCS Warrior in resin or plastic (to be
assembled and painted), though I suppose you know that and so came
here as a resort.

Thank you for the links. I'll try them. To clarify a bit, I'm not
looking to piece together something, I'm hoping to buy it already
made? Wood or plastic, something-you-would-put-on-the-mantle kind of
thing...

There is a company that sells assembled, painted metal models of the
Colossus class ships (1:1250 scale) to which Warrior belonged for £35
UK.

Would that be sufficient?

hlabadie: thank you for your post. As Techtor has spent (I believe) a
considerable amount of time/energy on this question, I feel that I
should exhaust his or her attempts before looking at the steel models.
I would be willing to accept them as an answer, provided that they
could be marked as "HMS Warrior" and not some other ship.

Thank you,

Scary

I will see what I can find on artwork of HMCS Warrior. Meanwhile, you
might want to set up a separate question for Hlabadie's proposal, in
case you do want to accept what he proposes.

Here is the supplier of the metal Colossus class ship models:

http://www.skytrex.com/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Modern_Warships_in_1_1250th_Scale_308.html

It appears that you could obtain a painted model on a display plinth
with a custom label for £45 UK.
