Hello jhaire2,
I am answering this question using my own experience with my Dell Axim
X5 and Compact Flash card.
To move around files on your handheld itself:
1) Click on the Start Button
2) Click on Programs
3) Click on File Explorer
4) Here you will see a listing of folders and/or files on your
handheld. There should be two folders with a different icon, a
Built-In Storage icon and a CF Card Icon. You should also see a
listing of other folders.
5) To move a folder or file to your CF card, hold your stylus over and
you will see a menu come up. If you want to actually move the folder,
click on CUT (This will remove it from the Built-In Storage
completely). If you want to make a backup copy on the CF Card, click
on Copy.
6) Next, you have to OPEN the CF folder and in the far bottom left,
you will see a menu with Edit and Open. Click on the EDIT and click on
PASTE. This will move or copy the selected files to your CF Card. You
can also find a blank space in the CF Card (usually at the bottom) and
hold down the stylus on the blank space, and then click on PASTE.
Basically File Explorer works like Windows Explorer except that
folders are listed more haphazardly instead of in their actual
directory structure.
While it is possible to move files around on your handheld itself, it
is much easier to do so once you have connected your Axim to your
computer.
------------
To move around files once you have docked the handheld to your computer:
1) Make sure you enter your password and that your desktop makes the
appropriate connections.
2) Open up My Computer from the Start Menu (on your desktop) and then
double click on Mobile Device.
3) Double click on My Pocket PC.
4) All of these files are on your Built-In Storage except for the
folder ?CF Card?. You can drag files and folders to your CF Card, but
remember that the Windows Folder, the Program Files Folder, Profiles,
Databases and Application Data folders are vital to the running of
your Pocket PC. Any additional files such as those in My Documents and
any music, videos etc. can be transferred safely to your CF Card.
4) Double click on CF Card ? this shows you what you have on your CF
Card. Items inside the Built-In Storage folder (does not show vital
items on my version) can also be transferred over to your CF Card.
I hope this is the type of answer you were looking for. Please let me
know if you require any clarification, and I will do my best to
further assist you.

Hello jhaire2,
Downloading your email to your flash card is not difficult at all
(it's as simple as doing a search for your dbx files on your computer
and copying them over), but I do not know if it is possible to then
open it on your pocket pc with the default email software. After
searching on the net and attempting to do this on my own model, I was
unable to find an answer.
The email application that comes with the Axim X5 does let you store
ATTACHMENTS of emails on your compact flash card, but it does NOT have
any functionality that allows one to have the main email data files
stored on removable memory. (To store the attachements, you set up the
account and then go into Accounts -> Storage and check the box that
say "Store attachments on storage card.") Of course, this will only
store your attachments on your storage card and not your emails.
If you absolutely need to have your emails written to and read from
your compact flash card, you will have to find third party software
that allows you to do this. Some possible solutions can be found at:
http://www.foxpop.co.uk/PocketPC/email_01.htm The one with the best
potential to solve your problem can be found at:
http://www.pocketinformant.com/p_webismail.php A quick email to
mailto:sales@webis.net would give you the answer as to whether they
support storage on compact flash cards of email account data files.
Sorry that the news regarding this was not good. If I find any other
information regarding this issue, I will be sure to post it for you. I
have emailed some companies asking if their email solutions would
allow you to do this and I will be sure to keep you updated.
