I would like a list, as comprehensive as possible of European Internet
radio stations. In database format (Excel compatible), I would like it
to show at least Station name, URL, genre, location (Country/City),
Streaming format(s), type (ie personal/commercial etc). I am
particularly interested in the UK and would also be interested to know
if the service is free or subscription and who the technology provider
is (if relevant ie live365).

If any data is available on audience size or ranking of the list is
possible, so much the better!

Hi msc77,

I have located a very comprehensive directory which lists over 3000
European internet radio stations. This directory includes Name, Url,
Location and Streaming Format (when available).

There are other some not-so-comprehensive databases which also include
genre (when available).

I can merge these directories and manually compile them in an xls
format. Therefore the database would provide for you would include the
following:

Name 
Location
URL 
Genre (if available)
Streaming format (if available)

Would this sort of data interest you?

That's great...just to confirm, these are internet radio stations and
not just traditional terrestrial broadcasters? It would be helpful if
you can specify whether a service is exclusively internet or both
internet and terrestrial, in which case, are the services merely
simulcast or specially programmed for the internet?

Yes, these are internet radio stations. 

I won't be able to specify whether a service is exclusively internet
or both online and terrestrial stations without going into each of
their websites. However, I have located a database which lists ALL
radio stations and specifies whether they are also internet stations.

My principle interest is foremost UK & Ireland, Secondly the countries
of the (current) European Union and thirdly, the rest of Europe.
However, in some of the less well legislated, non EU territories it is
likely that there may be a significant number of stations and I would
be interested to know about them. I can wait if you're happy to

Hi msc77,

Having worked on your question for over a week now, I feel I should
let you know that I am not making as much progress as I had
anticipated. I believe that the time I am spending compiling and
formatting the information, does not justify the end result and what I
am able to provide. For example, most of the streaming formats and
genre are not available for each internet radio station and looking
for each is extremely time-consuming. What I am able to provide to
strike a balance between the time spent and value added to this
question, is the name of the station, the location and the url.

If you consider this information enough to meet you expectations, I
will continue working on this question. Alternatively, I will release
this question for another researcher to work on.

This is very helpful and I appreciate that a lot of work has gone into

information for all the territories because of the intensive nature of

I will begin compiling the data you requested. However, I should let
you know that I have been able to establish in the course of my
research that not all the information you are seeking is easily
extractable, if at all.

With regards to the communication issue, the system is such that after
rating a question, we are still able to communicate, i.e. you are able
to request a clarification and/or comment. However, you will be unable
to tip then.
