As a young girl, I had a 45 rpm copy of "Satisfaction." The words were not the same ones that I hear when it is played on the radio today. In the verse about "doing this and deciding that" I swear Mick sings "I'm trying to make some girl pregnant, but you see I'm on a losing streak." (or losing sleep) which seems "nasty" enough to have created a big foo-fah with the radio stations & whether or not they sould play that song. I know it was banned from being played in some areas. I no longer have the original 45, and now that the lyrics are "sanitized", it seems they are they only ones people remember. Does anyone have proof of my adolescent memory? Did the Stones ever write about it? |

This is the only thing I could find on the Web: http://inthe00s.com/archive/misheard/1043205469.shtml The lyrics I've found everywhere are as I remember them from my youth: "When I'm ridin' round the world And I'm doin' this and I'm signin' that And I'm tryin' to make some girl, who tells me Baby, better come back maybe next week 'Cause you see I'm on a losing streak..." Radio stations in my area of the country got upset about the "tryin' to make some girl" line. They didn't like "I can't get no girl reaction" either. Gosh, how times have changed. This song sure seems mild compared to what's on the radio these days! |

From EvilLyrics.com Can't Get No Satisfaction "I can't get no satisfaction, I can't get no satisfaction. 'Cause I try and I try and I try and I try. I can't get no, I can't get no. When I'm drivin' in my car and that man comes on the radio and he's tellin' me more and more about some useless information supposed to fire my imagination. I can't get no, oh no no no. Hey hey hey, that's what I say. I can't get no satisfaction, I can't get no satisfaction. 'Cause I try and I try and I try and I try. I can't get no, I can't get no. When I'm watchin' my TV and that man comes on to tell me how white my shirts can be. Well he can't be a man 'cause he doesn't smoke the same cigarrettes as me. I can't get no, oh no no no. Hey hey hey, that's what I say. I can't get no satisfaction, I can't get no girl with action. 'Cause I try and I try and I try and I try. I can't get no, I can't get no. When I'm ridin' round the world and I'm doin' this and I'm signing that and I'm tryin' to make some girl who tells me baby better come back later next week 'cause you see I'm on losing streak. I can't get no, oh no no no. Hey hey hey, that's what I say. I can't get no, I can't get no, I can't get no satisfaction, no satisfaction, no satisfaction, no satisfaction." |

From my experience hearing the song on the radio lo, these many years, I don't think there was more than one version. I don't have a Rolling Stones reference tome, but "The Billboard Book of Number One Albums" has three paragraphs on the song in its discussion of the "Out of Our Heads" album, and it doesn't say anything about multiple released versions of the lyrics. Nor do the two paragraphs on the song in "The Heart of Rock and Soul" by Dave Marsh. |

Dear pogo2 I have been listening to and reading about the Stones for many years, and I have never heard of satisfaction having a different set of lyrics or that they were ever sanitized in any way. "I'm trying to make some girl who tells me baby better come back maybe next week" etc. have as far as I know always been the lyrics to that verse. |
