I am looking for other high energy music like that of Sabre Dance by Aram Khachaturian. I would be happy if I could get recommendations for a half dozen other compositions like it. I am interested in classical pieces that have no vocals. Thanks |

These are some famous classical works that begin fairly quietly, then build and build to an exciting conclusion: Dukas, "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" Grieg, "In the Hall of the Mountain King" Moussorgsky, "Night on Bald Mountain" Ravel, "Bolero" Tchaikovsky, "1812 Overture" and "Marche Slav" Wagner, "Ride of the Valkyrie" The classical piece that I think most resembles "Sabre Dance" is Rimsky-Korsakov's "The Flight of the Bumblebee." http://www.classicalmusic.spb.ru/ruvirtuosi/mp3/Rimskiy-Korsakov_Flight_of_the_bumblebee.MP3 |

Or for more instantly punchy, wild Russian music how about the Adoration of the Earth: The maidens dances: http://kola.cc.columbia.edu:8080/ramgen/music/humanities/cd495/track06.rm From Stravinsky's 1913 ballet "The Rite of Spring", it's more atonal than Khachaturian, in that it uses some complex harmony and clusters of pitches, but it sounds quite frantic and violent from the outset. So much so that at its Paris premiere (in 1913) there was a riot. The Conductor Pierre Boulez has made a fine recording. |

These are all good referrals and I have enjoyed finding them and listening to them. I was hoping to find something like these, but relativly unknown. Unfortunately, I am guessing that music like this stands out and in not easily overlooked. I especially like the Sabre Dance, but I feel it is too closely associated with Pee Wee Herman, or the jugglers and plate spinners of the early 19th century. Just for some background, I too am a juggler/magicain and was hoping to find something fresh in this style. |
