wE HAVE BEEN TOLD BY SOMEBODY WHO WORKS FOR A VERY LARGE COMPUTER MANUFACTURER THAT "THE GOING RATE FOR A RE-WRITE IS $5 PER LINE". wE ARE WONDERING IF THERE IS AN OFFICIAL SOURCE WE CAN QUOTE TO SUBSTANTIATE THIS. |

My guess is small outfits will rewrite for $1 per line, but their garentee may not be worth much. The big boys may cop out also if pleasing you proves costly. Obviously some programs are more difficult than others. You should look into having the rewrite done in India which now has some of the world's best programers. Neil |

We are after the cost of RE-writing software. The heading is not accurate. We agree with Neil, but he misses the point. We want to quote an accepted source like GARTNER or some GURU. that "the Cost of re-writing Legacy Software" is very high, so do not do it. Migrate it instead for 50 cents a line instead of $5 a line. But without being able to quotr a GURU so what we say can be corroborated, it does not have the force of an authority. |
