Your question can be taken in two different ways. Do you mean "What
percentage of patients who are afflicted by disease suffer from
chronic degenerative diseases?" Or do you mean "What percentage of the
full spectrum of known diseases are chronic degenerative diseases?"

Thank you for clarifying your precise meaning so promptly. According
to 2002 figures from the World Health Organization, chronic
degenerative noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) account for 43% of the
burden of disease, and are implicated in 60% of all deaths.

"During the last decade of the 20th century it has been increasingly
recognized that chronic, degenerative noncommunicable diseases (NCDs)
constitute the major health challenge to economic and social
development. They also impose a tremendous strain on national health
budgets and the curative health services in developing countries."

World Health Organization: RD's Biennial Report 1999-2001
http://w3.whosea.org/rdreport99/rdreport3.htm

"Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading cause of death and
disability worldwide. The WorldHealth Report 2002 stated that the
mortality, morbidity and disability attributed to the major NCDs
account for about 60% of all deaths and 43% of the global burden of
disease."
