A note to my colleagues:

Vaginal hysterectomy was first performed and described by the Greek
physician Soranus (also: Soranos) of Ephesus, around 120 AD. The
description is part of his writing "Gynaikeia" ("Gynecology"). If you
have access to that book or a translation of the same, you might be
able to answer this question.
