I installed Netscape 7.1 on Mandrake Linux 9.2. The Linux box does not have Internet access (Netscape will be used on the intranet only.) However, everytime Netscape starts, it tries to connect to the Netscape web site to register the new software. How do I disable the registration so my users do not have to click Cancel on the registration dialog every time they start Netscape? |

Hi jazzbass, Here are two options to try: 1) Change from "true" to "false" this entry: pref("browser.registration.enable", true); Found here: C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape\defaults\pref folder -or- 2) Delete or rename the file "activation.dll" found in: C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape\components I think that should do it - if you have any questions, please post a clarification request before closing/rating my answer. Thank you, hummer Google Search Terms Used how to disable netscape registration disabling registration netscape 7.1 |

The answer doesn't apply directly to Linux, but it helped me find the Netscape configuration file anyway. Thanks! BTW, For Linux, the file is <netscape-install-dir>/defaults/pref/all-ns.js. |

Dear jazzbass, Whoops, well that's embarrassing. Here are your five stars for being such a good sport ***** - you are very kind. Anyway, the important thing is your problem has been solved (with little help from me!). Take care of yourself, hummer |

Why use Netscape?

Unless it's your corparate standard, you might be better served by using Mozilla or Mozilla Firefox, which are newer browsers based off of the same Netscape code. Since AOL layed off its Netscape developers, Netscape is no longer being actively developed. http://www.mozilla.org |
