The issue you are facing is known as adware and/or spyware, or in less
flattering terms, scumware. To remove the offending program, you have
a couple of choices. One, you can download an adware/spyware scanner
program to scan your system of known spyware and adware programs and
remove them. One application is Bazooka, which is a freeware
application that you download at
http://www.kephyr.com/spywarescanner/index.html Another is AdAware at
http://www.lavasoft.de/. They will find and clean searchxl from your
system as well as any other spyware/adware application that is on your
system. Another option is to manually remove the offending files.
Here are the instructions to remove the file. Each step must be
followed in order to remove searchxl:

1. Start the registry editor. This is done by clicking Start then
Run. (The Run dialog will appear.) Type regedit and click OK. (The
registry editor will open.)
2. Browse to the key:
'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Run'
3. In the right pane, delete 'SystemSearch', if it exists.
4. Exit the registry editor.
5. Start Windows Explorer and delete:
c:\ie.reg
6. Start the registry editor. This is done by clicking Start then
Run. (The Run dialog will appear.) Type regedit and click OK. (The
registry editor will open.)
7. Use the search function in the registry editor to find
www.searchxl.com and restore all the value SearchXl has changed.
(SearchXl has changed your Home Page, Search Page, Search Bar, Search
Url, Default Page Url, Search Prefix, Search Assistant and
CustomizeSearch to www.searchxl.com)
8. Exit the registry editor.

If you follow the above steps, this should remove searchxl from your
system. However, my recomendation is to download one of the spyware
scanners mentioned above as I would pretty much guarantee there are
other things on your PC that you don't know about.

Thanks for your question and if need any additional clarification,
please let me know.

One thing, always back up the registry if you are editing, in case you
goof something up. In upper left click on registry, and export
registry file, save to documents.
